Finally you see somebody taking a step in the right direction (although it's not really a final step, but it's a start): Russia backs Kyoto climate treaty. Who is left? Mr. generator of 25% of all greenhouse gases, the US, that was in the treaty until 3 years ago Mr. "this is not good for the economy right now" George W. decided to pull out of the treaty. I've talked to some people (including my father) that think that this alone is reason enough to want him out of the government.

The other day I was listening to an interview with someone from the US government about the Kyoto Protocol, and his theory (and that wasn't the reason why, three years ago Mr. Bush said the US was out of it) is that it doesn't make sense because developing worlds don't have any restriction in the amount of emissions they have to reach. He actually had only one country in mind: China.

I agree that it is necessary to limit a hyper-growing country like China, but this shouldn't be a reason why you don't want to reduce the limits yourself. As it has been said at the end of the meeting at Kyoto in 1997 is that this alone wouldn't be sufficient, but just a first step on the right direction. If you never take a first step, you will never get anywhere.
